We use 4 x 4 treated posts or 2 x 3/8 galvanized posts with 2 x 4 rails and cedar pickets for our wooden fences. The height ranges between 3 feet to 8 feet. You have the option of adding a treated rot board (2 x 6 or 2 x 12), which will significantly extend the life of your wooden fence.
